Seek the Counsel of the Lord
In this Bible study, Pastor Art Snow teaches from 2 Samuel 21, highlighting the famine in David’s day and the crucial difference between David and Joshua: David inquired of the Lord, while Joshua’s leaders once made a covenant with the Gibeonites without asking God’s counsel. Art walks through the history of the Gibeonites from Joshua 9, explaining how their deception and Israel’s failure to seek God led to long-term consequences, ultimately resurfacing in David’s time when Saul broke Israel’s covenant by killing them. Art shows how David corrected the injustice, restoring blessing to the land by obeying God and honoring the covenant. Moving from the text to personal application, he emphasizes that believers must seek God’s counsel in every decision—small or large—rather than relying on logic, worldly wisdom, or self-made plans. The study ends with a call to pray, trust, and allow God to guide every step, quoting Isaiah 30 as a warning against taking counsel that does not come from the Lord.
